EV charging questions, answered

PlugMitra connects EV drivers in India with home and apartment chargers nearby. Here is what drivers and hosts ask most.

For EV drivers

How does PlugMitra work?

PlugMitra is a marketplace for home EV chargers in India. Drivers search for a home or apartment charger nearby, request a time slot, charge, and pay the owner directly by UPI for the units (kWh) used.

How much does it cost to charge an EV at someone's home charger?

Each owner sets a price per kWh, typically ₹9–₹20 per kWh in India. A 7.2 kW Type 2 charger delivers about 7 kWh per hour, so one hour costs roughly ₹65–₹140. You pay only for the units you use.

How long does it take to charge an electric car at a home charger?

A 3.3 kW charger or 15A socket adds about 15–20 km of range per hour. A 7.2 kW Type 2 AC charger adds about 35–45 km per hour. A DC fast charger (CCS2, 25–60 kW) can add 150+ km in 30–45 minutes.

Which plug does my electric car use in India?

Most new EVs in India (Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona, BYD Atto 3) use Type 2 for AC charging and CCS2 for DC fast charging. Older and budget EVs may use a 15A home socket or Bharat AC-001. Filter by plug type on PlugMitra.

How do I pay the charger owner?

After charging, the owner enters the kWh used and PlugMitra calculates the bill. You pay the owner directly with any UPI app (GPay, PhonePe, Paytm). PlugMitra does not hold your money.

Is it safe to charge at a stranger's home?

Every booking must be accepted by the owner, and both sides see each other's name and phone only after booking. Listings show ratings from previous drivers, and admin-verified chargers carry a Verified badge.

For charger owners (hosts)

How can I earn money from my home EV charger?

List your charger on PlugMitra for free, set a price per kWh and the hours it is available, then accept requests from nearby EV drivers. Drivers pay you directly by UPI after charging.

How much should I charge per kWh?

Home electricity in India costs about ₹6–₹9 per kWh, and public fast chargers charge ₹18–₹25. Most PlugMitra hosts price between ₹10 and ₹16 per kWh to cover electricity, wear and their time.

Do I need permission from my apartment society to share my charger?

If the charger is in a shared or society parking area, get written permission from your society or RWA first. You can mark the listing as "society permission confirmed", which drivers trust more.

Can I pause or remove my charger listing?

Yes. You can pause, edit or delete your listing at any time from the Host page. Paused chargers are hidden from search.
